Workplace Types
Workplace managers must determine which category of building their workplace fits, as this will determine their requirements relating to the Fire and Evacuation Plan and training. Then commence an implementation program that is compliant with the regulations. There are 2 categories of building:
A- High Occupancy
Any building where 30 or more workers are normally employed - means, during the current year, at least 30 workers are employed, or are likely to be employed, at the workplace for a total of any 40 days during the year. (Definition as per the Workplace Health and Safety Act)
- Any licensed premises "at risk of overcrowding" as determined by the commissioner. (This is to be decided on an individual basis and communicated to the premises.)
- Any class 2 or 3 (Motel or Apartment) building over 25m in height.
B- Low Occupancy
Any building not categorized as High Occupancy.
