Evacuation Diagram
Some properties will need to improve their Evacuation Diagrams. The requirements for these have been tightened considerably. All Fire Reference Points, exit doors, paths of travel and assembly areas are to be shown in an easily understood form. Specific requirements on visibility and placement in the workplace now exist. There must be evacuation signs giving basic emergency information to the reader. These can be separate to or combined with Evacuation Diagrams.
Requirement for Evacuation Diagrams
Evacuation diagrams must be conspicuously and securely placed on the wall or internal side of the door on all exit routes and contain an easily understood diagram of that part of the building or the entire building. There must also be a diagram showing the location of assembly area/s. These diagrams can be either separate or combined however the essence is that it must be easily understood which would include correct orientation. The following fire reference points must appear:
- "you are here" point individual to that diagram placement
- Each exit
- Exit routes that are reasonably accessible from that part of the building
- Intercommunication devices
- Manually operated alarms
- Firefighting equipment
- Each designated assembly area
- Route from each final exit to the assembly area/s.
